Just one of those days !

By tdomf_d782a

Claremorris 2 Killala 0

Killala U-16 traveled to Claremorris hoping to retain their 3rd place in the league but it just wasn’t to be.
Claremorris opened the scoring after just 2 minutes after a defensive error allowed one of the Claremorris strikers through to round the Killala keeper and slot the ball home.
However for the rest of the game Killala pounded the Claremorris goal which will need a new paint job after being struck 3 times in the first half and 6 times in the second not including a venemous strike by Killala’s Mattie Kane which had the Claremorris keeper well beat but shook both posts.
The home side went in at half time shocked to be 1-0 up.
Killala piled on even more pressure in the 2nd half and were denied an equaliser by the Claremorris goalkeeper (man of the match) who pulled off superb saves to deny Killala’s Jason Carroll, Ryan Sweeney, Cian Noone, James Noone, Daragh O’Boyle, Simon Helly & Mattie Kane.
Killala pushed and probed for the equaliser and left just Cian Monaghan and Eoin O’Neill in defense to handle the non existant Claremorris attack but it was just one of those days when deep into injury time Claremorris cleared one of Killala’s 12 corners and with their only decent passing movements of the game punished Killala with the final score of the game to have it finish 2-0 to the home side.
Both teams left the pitch scratching their heads at the score for different reasons.
Killala team: J. Flannelly, P. Murphy, C.Monaghan, J. Carroll, E. O’Neill, J. Noone, D.Haugh, C.Noone, M.Kane, D.O’Boyle and S.Helly. Subs: R.Sweeny for D.Haugh (50 min)

U-13 win again

By tdomf_d782a

Killala U-13 kept their fine league form up with an impressive 5-1 win against Urlar Utd on Friday evening 27/08/10.
Killala’s man of the match Kyle McLoughlin opened the score after 5 minutes with the first goal of his hatrick.
Killala had the lions share of possesion and were rewarded for their efforts with Kyle McLoughlin getting his second and Shane McAndrew scoring just before the break to leave the home side 3-0 up at half time.
It was much the same for the home side in the second half and only for some great saves from the Urlar & Mayo U-14 goalkeeper denying Shane McAndrew, Kieran Lally and Kevin Healy.
The pick of the Killala goals was Kyle McLoughlin’s third after some fine footwork by Killala’s right midfielder Nathan Browne beating 3 players to cross to Kevin Healy who laid the ball of to Kyle McLoughlin to smash in his third of the evening.
10 minutes from time another great run down the right by Nathan Browne who sent the Ball accross for Kieran Lally who finished first time to score a well deserved goal that his hard work deserved.
Killala conceeded a penalty 5 minutes from time after Shane McAndrew pushed the Urlar striker over inside the box, the resulting spot kick was sent high over the bar.
Killala’s defence were rock solid throughout the game but in the last minute Killala’s concentration faltered after a mazy run from centre back Keith Higgins broke down which left Killala exposed and Urlar punished this mistake and scored a concellation goal.
The match ended just as Killala restarted and after a dissapointing opening game loss to Conn Rangers on the opening game Killala are well poised in this campaign in 2nd place with the leaders (Conn Rangers) coming to Killala on the last day of the league.
Killala Team:D. Walsh, C. Mooney, C. McHale, P. Lynott, K. Higgins (c), A. Kearney, K. Healy, N. Browne, K. McLoughlin, K. Lally & S. McAndrew.
subs: Birthday Boy Brian Lawlor for Cian McHale 50 minutes and Darren Collins for Anthony Kearney 50 minutes.

Killala 4 Mulranny Utd 2

Killala signed off their Div1 campaign at home with a 4-2 win over second placed Mulrany Utd at Courthouse St on Sunday. Despite going a goal down after only 5 mi the home side attacked at every opportunity and good chances were spurned by John Clarke, Johnny McNulty & Rory Gallagher to level the match before the break. The second half saw a more positive and confident looking Kilala side but the visitors, needing a win to wait in the championship race, were defending their lead with a passion. With a half an hour to go A Roy Gallagher corner found the net and the game came to life. The next goal would be crucial and Killala mounted waves of attack to seek the winner but with 18 minutes left on the clock it was Mulranny who hit the front when a mix up in the home defense let them in to score and go ahead once again. With the game going into the last ten minutes it looked like mulranny were going to bring the title race to the last day but then a goal from captain Johnny McNulty and a wonder goal from Rory Gallagher to complete his fourth hatrick of the campaign put Killala 4-2 in front and sparked celebrations in the town that will last well into the week.

Under 13 win again in a game of 2 half’s

By tdomf_d782a

Killala 7 Snugboro 0

Killala U-13 entertained Snugboro United this evening and it was allways going to be a close affair seeing as 3 weeks ago Killala emerged Victorious at Snugboro in a narrow 4-3 win.
As the old saying goes football is definately a game of 2 half’s with very little seperating the 2 sides after the first 35 minutes and only for some fine defending by both sides both teams going in scoreless at half time.
The introduction of Anthony Kearney at half time paid immediate reward after the Killala player beat 3 defenders and struck the ball sweetly to give the home side the lead.
After that the flood gates opened up with 2 goals from Killala’s Kevin Healy and 1 apiece for Kyle McLoughlin, Shane McAndrew, Kieran Lally and Rory McGuire making the final score 7-0 with most being set up by man of the match Nathan Browne who terrorised Snugboro down the right wing.
Killala are now joint top of the league and now with 5 wins in a row seem like the form side in the division.
Team:Declan Walsh, Peter Lynott (Padraic O’Donnell 65min), Connor Mooney (Brian Lawlor 50min), David Lawlor, Keith Higgins, Kevin Healy (Tom Dempsey 65 min), Alan Kenny (Kieran Lally 40min), Caelan Dorris (Anthony Kearney 35min), Kyle McLoughlin, Shane McAndrew (Domnick Dempsey 50min), Nathan Browne and Rory McGuire replacing the injured Domnick Dempsey after 60 min.

Killala 3 Castlebar Town 1

Killala U-13 boys made it 4 wins in a row this evening with an impressive 3-1 win against Castlebar Town .
After a tight opening 20 minutes Killala midfielder Kevin Healy broke the deadlock with a well taken free kick from just outside the box, it was a well deserved lead as Killala had the lions share of possession and were unlucky to go in at half time only one nil up.
The second half saw Killala pile pressure on the visitors with Kieran Lally, Kevin Healy and Kyle McLoughlin all going close to extending Killala’s lead.
The Home team got rewarded for their persistance when man of the match Kieran Lally got the first of his 2 headed goals 15 min into the second half with the other coming 10 min from time. Castlebar fought on and claimed a consulation goal at the death.
Team: Craig McCormick, Connor Mooney, Padraic O’Donnell, David Lawlor, Keith Higgins (C), Alan Kenny, Kevin Healy, Nathan Browne, Kyle McLoughlin, Anthony Kearney & Kieran Lally.

Killala 8 Inver United 1

An easy win over bottom side Inver Utd consilidated the home sides 5 point lead at the top of Div.1. An early wonder goal from Rory Gallagher his 18th of the season and a contender for one of his best, set the tone for this big win. Another Gallagher goal and one from Marc McDonnell gave the Killala lads a halftime lead of 3-0. Complaceny set in during the opening period of the second half and sloppy play by Killala allowed Inver back into the game and with one of their raids on the homeside goal the a shot from the angle of the box ended up in the side netting and amid claims from the Inver players the referee order a goal kick. From this Shane Whyte punt up the pitch Gallagher won the ball and outpaced the visitors defence to claim his hatrick or so he thought. as the kickoff by Inver was about to be taken the protests were still ongoing about the incident at the other end and Inver were claimimg a goal from that. The referee then  decided to award the goal to Inver and chalk off the Killala goal, from 4-0 to 3-1 what a bizzare decision. This incident didnt knock Killala off their stride and Gallagher eventually registered his hat rick moments later. He grabbed a fourth and his 21st goal of the season with 15 minutes to play and further goals from Martin McLoughlin, Alan Murphy and Brendan Ryan completed the rout.  Team : Sean McHale, Matt Webb, David Cadden, Oliver Clarke, Shane Whyte, Marc McDonnell, Ian O’Boyle, John Clarke, Alan Murphy, Rory Gallagher, Ronan Heffron, Subs Brendan Ryan & Martin McLouglin

Killala 2 Ballina Town B 1 At Milebush Park
The U-14 boys won their second title in a row in a thrilling play-off final in Milebush Park this afternoon.Only three minutes into the game Killala fell a goal behind after a defensive mix up.Ballina were creating chances at will but could not find the net and suddenly Killala scored after some great work by O Boyle set up C Lally.Ballina continued to dominate and Killala were fortunate to go in 1-1 at the break.Killala shuffled the team at the break and looked a completely different team on the restart. The game flowed end to end and Killala created numerous chances before a R Sweeney free kick was volleyed to the net by K Healy. They continued to dominate and three minutes from time had a goal disallowed from a corner. However their was still time for J Flannelly to push a shot on to the crossbar and save the game going to extra time. When the final whistle blew their was great relief and celebration.
